Distance Learning Saves You Time and Money

You can do distance learning programs using either audio or visual media. You can listen to an instructor through an audiotape in a distance learning setting. A third alternative is one-way satellite broadcasts that beam your lessons in a sophisticated setting.

The popularity of online learning programs is wonderful, but do not forget that some online programs are transitory. They are here today and gone the next day. You must target online degree institutions and programs that have been in existence for a while and have proved their worth to avoid wasting your money.

Distance learning or distance education is all about convenience. It is a practice or avenue that gives you the opportunity to learn from home without physically going to the school. Many people practice it these days, especially those who have a physical disability or some other duty that limit them to their present location.

After the University of London awarded distance learning degrees in 1858, the University of South Africa followed suit in 1946. It was not too long after, in 1974, that Germany launched its own Open University. But that was not before that of the UK, founded in 1969.

Asynchronous technology is helpful in distance education. When the student and the teacher cannot both be available at the same time at their respective locations, the teacher must find a means to record the lesson and pass them along. CDs, e-mail, video and audiotape recordings help to keep the student on track.

Rather than have students come to the college site for tests, many higher institutions propose other solutions. For example, they set up examination centers where trusted invigilators can supervise students during examinations. Even if you are the cheating type, there is only so much you can do when forced to write your tests like this, if you hope to still get your degree.

Audiographics is important in distance learning. It's called electronic whiteboard because of the use of the screen of the computer to display written information. Audiographics is most effective for the lecture phase of delivery. Audiographics is an excellent avenue for extensive discussions on several topics during your study.

Although the idea of using WebEx is attractive for distance education programs in various higher institutions, many think that it defeats the whole purpose of the program. You are on a distance learning agenda because you cannot afford the time or the money to be in school physically. If you had to spend extra for the WebEx service, you might as well have been in school then.
